New track 'laid' towards Chilcompton
Sadly these are only temporary track panels dropped in place on the new 'extension', but it's a sign of things to come later in the year, when we'll hopefully be laying track here properly. This view shows the cleared, but unprepared trackbed with track and sleepers laid on top of the original trackbed, this is to enable staff to start moving materials which are currently standing in the way of the Up line extension, on Trust land, in the Chilcompton (southwards) direction. Later in the year when hopefully planning permission will be granted for tracklaying, this trackbed in the photo will be properly graded and prepared, and track laid and ballasted in readiness for full running.
